REUNION NEWS:
We have just returned from Atlanta finalizing plans for the reunion. The dates are June 28th through the 3rd of July. I would suggest if you are flying to make your reservations now as the return date is close to the 4th of July, a major holiday. If you are flying in, the hotel has shuttle service free of charge to and from the airport. The complete schedule of events will be in the March newsletter. This will outline all the events with a total cost including the banquet on Wednesday the 3rd of July. The hotel will have plenty of parking space that will be free of charge. I would advise if you are planning on attending the events in downtown Atlanta, that you take the tour bus for all the events, as parking in downtown Atlanta is $10.00 per hour. We hope you are enjoying the pictures we are putting in the newsletter. Give us some feed back.
We would like to thank all of you who have paid your 2008 dues. The treasury is now much healthier. It can be healthier if the balance of you would submit your dues. I don't like to put a notice of this type in the letter but am charged by the reunion group to do so. Thanks, Ed Quinn, Jim Sector, Julius Shoulars.

I signed up in Bay City, Michigan in 1943 to avoid
the draft. After boot camp I went to Camp Bradford,
Norfolk, Virginia and then on to Salcombe, England
where we did maneuvers. I had a good duty…I
worked the switchboard sitting and answering the
telephone. I read a notice that was placed near the
switchboard asking for guys to play in a band. I
signed up and got to play for several dances around
Salcombe. I played the drums. Then it was on to
Normandy. Bill Lithicum and I shared a fox hole.
Ours was plush…we lined it with blankets. We
cooked our meals with Leo Scheer and Pop Shuman.
(He was an older man, that’s why we called him Pop,
but he was probably only 25 years old) I was part of
The hydrographic crew...a seaman and I did what I
was told. I remember one day after the invasion, Bill
and I went into Vierville, France a small town right
there on the beach just to look around. On our way
back we found a German soldier. He surrendered to
us. He hugged us and was really happy to see us.
He hadn’t eaten for days. We took him back with us
with his arms raised in surrender. We found out that
he was really Polish but was having to serve in the
German army.
